THE Jewish Orthodox Feminist Alliance (JOFA) Australia has scholarships available for Australian women who are mikvah attendants.

JOFA Australia president Nomi Kaltmann explained, “JOFA Australia has an aim to foster local community leadership and talent to ensure that Orthodox women in Australia have access to scholarships, education and training.

“Mikvahs are the backbone of any Orthodox community, and we want to ensure that mikvah attendants have access to a world-renowned training program tailored for them,” she said.

The Eden Centre, located in Jerusalem, offers a rigorous course for mikvah attendants that focuses on enabling all women to have a personally meaningful and welcoming experience in the mikvah.

Sponsored by JOFA Australia, the Eden Centre will teach the first all-Australian mikvah attendant 12-week training course.

This training course is for existing mikvah attendants at any mikvah in Australia.

The Eden Centre’s work is concentrated on three focus areas: educational programming for mikvah professionals, community-wide programming, and resource publications. To date, their programs have reached over 13,000 women directly and another 82,000 indirectly.

“JOFA Australia has funding to support up to 22 women of any age and any level of experience as a mikvah attendant, from across Australia to undertake the 12-week training course,” said Kaltmann.

“We want women to feel that their continuing Jewish education is important and our generous donors are prepared to fund opportunities for Australian women that have not existed previously for them,” she said.

The course will take place live on Zoom for three hours each week on Mondays, starting from May 9. The course will run for 12 weeks consecutively, until Monday, August 8.
