Model matzah bakery brings Pesach to life
The workshops were not only fun and engaging, but also deeply meaningful.
Over 1300 children across Sydney recently rolled up their sleeves and stepped into the spirit of Pesach thanks to Chabad Youth NSW’s model matzah bakery, which ran over 40 hands-on workshops in the lead-up to the festival.
Hosted in schools, early learning centres and community venues, the interactive experience gave boys and girls of all ages and backgrounds the chance to mix, knead, roll and bake their very own matzah – all within the halachic 18-minute time frame.
The workshops were not only fun and engaging, but also deeply meaningful. As the dough was worked and the ovens heated up, participants learned about the story of the Exodus, the symbolism of matzah as the “bread of faith”, and the importance of preparing for Pesach in both body and spirit.

“Our goal is to make Judaism come alive for every child,” said a Chabad Youth NSW spokesperson.
“The model matzah bakery brings the message of Pesach out of the books and into the hearts and hands of the next generation.”
The enthusiastic response from students, teachers and parents has made the model matzah bakery a much-loved annual tradition. More than just an activity, it serves as a powerful reminder of freedom, tradition and connection.
As the community prepared for Pesach, Chabad Youth NSW continued to inspire, educate and uplift – one matzah at a time.
