‘Monumental task’ of rebuilding following fire devastation
Massive fires ravaged the Jerusalem hills and forced the cancellation of most of Israel's Independence Day celebrations.
Over 500 JNF staff and firefighters have been deployed from across Israel to battle the flames that have devastated forests in Jerusalem, Beit Shemesh, the North, and the South.
With thousands evacuated and, in a heartbreaking and historic moment, all Independence Day celebrations cancelled, Israel faces the enormous challenge of rebuilding the unprecedented damage.
JNF’s firefighting units are operating at full capacity, with equipment being stretched to its limits. In the aftermath, JNF requires help with the monumental task of restoring destroyed ecosystems, replanting forests, and healing scarred landscapes.

“As Israel faces one of the worst environmental disasters in its history, KKL-JNF teams are on the front lines – fighting flames, protecting communities, and safeguarding our precious forests,” said Israel Emissary for JNF Sarah Vanunu.
“The forests may burn in hours, but it takes generations to rebuild. This crisis demands a global response. As the Israel Emissary for KKL-JNF Australia, I call on our community to stand with Israel. Your support is urgently needed to replenish critical firefighting equipment and begin the long road to recovery and reforestation. Together, we can be part of that restoration.”
