More footy grand final success for AJAX juniors

A week after AJAX Junior Footy Club’s U13 Rockets and U11 Stars won premierships, the club won its first ever U18 top division flag, when their Comets beat Bentleigh in an epic, high quality grand final last Sunday, by 10.6 (66) to 10.4 (64), with Hugo Mack Krasnostein booting six goals.

Coached by Corey Zielinski together with Matt Ciadulli  and Noah Michmacher, the team entered the grand final after an incredible season in which they had lost only once.

Trailing by 2 points at the main break, and by 5 points with a quarter left, the match continued to be an arm wrestle, until AJAX hit the lead with five minutes to go, and were able to hold out their opponents, just, with desperate defence, and by winning the last clearance with just 20 seconds left.

For many of these boys, this premiership win was even sweeter, as nearly half the team had endured the heartbreak of losing last year’s grand final. This time, it was their turn to taste the ultimate reward.

The AJAX U15 Comets were also winners on the day, claiming the division 2 reserve grand final by 52-29, dominating in all areas.
