Moriah alumni shine on AFR young rich list

Two former Moriah College students have been recognised on the Australian Financial Review’s Young Rich List for 2025, with fintech pioneer Nick Molnar and wellness entrepreneur Jessica Sepel showcasing the success of Australian Jewish business talent.

Molnar, who co-founded buy now, pay later giant Afterpay in 2014, ranks sixth on the list with an estimated wealth of $1.19 billion. Molnar now serves as global head of sales for Block, which acquired Afterpay in a deal worth $39 billion announced in 2021, making it the largest deal in Australian corporate history.

Molnar founded Afterpay alongside Anthony Eisen in 2014, before listing the company on the ASX in 2016. It became a rare success story of a company going public so young and being rewarded by investors, revolutionising the payments industry and inspiring countless imitators worldwide.

According to the AFR, when Block, then named Square, bought the business, Molnar received $2.7 billion worth of Square stock for his Afterpay shares. While Block’s share price has been hit since then, and Molnar has not revealed how many shares he still owns in the business, his inclusion on the Young Rich List demonstrates his success in the fintech sector.

Making the list at number nine is Jessica Sepel, who also attended Moriah College, alongside her husband Dean Steingold, with an estimated combined wealth of $486 million. The couple co-founded vitamin and skincare brand JSHealth in 2017, building it from near-collapse to a multimillion-dollar empire.
