At his first event as president of the NSW Association of Jewish Service and Ex-Service Men and Women (NAJEX), Kolya Miller welcomed more than 150 people to a moving Jewish communal Anzac Day commemoration on April 19, praising the participation of many students from Jewish schools, and 3rd Rose Bay Judean Scouts, as being “so important”.

Held at the National Council of Jewish Women of Australia Hall in Woollahra, the ceremony featured wreath laying, memorial prayers, a minute’s silence, keynote speaker Colonel Michael Scott, and NSW Governor and NAJEX patron Margaret Beazley presenting six NAJEX bravery awards.

The awards recognised organisations whose members demonstrated outstanding courage and heroism during, and since, the deadly December 14 Bondi terror attack.

They were presented to Eastern Suburbs Police Area Commander Jodi Radmore, Bondi Surf Bathers Life Saving Club president Liz Webb, Community Health Support representative David Sacks, Hatzolah Sydney president Rabbi Mendy Litzman, NSW Ambulance chief superintendent Sarah Black, and members of Community Security Group (CSG) NSW.

Scott retired last month after a 30-year career in the Australian Army, he was awarded a Conspicuous Service Cross in 2023, he is a respected author, and the founder of the 2023 Foundation, which combats antisemitism through education.
