The Zionist Federation of Australia (ZFA) has announced the appointment of Alon Cassuto as its new CEO, to lead the organisation through the most challenging times faced by Australia’s Jewish community.

Cassuto, an accomplished lawyer and management consultant, will replace Ginette Searle on January 8. His appointment follows a global search.

Born and raised in Jerusalem, Cassuto is a former youth movement madrich, AUJS and Israel programs leader and chair of the Young Australia–Israel Chamber of Commerce.

Cassuto said he is ready to step up to the role.

“I am honoured to have been appointed to lead the ZFA on a transformative journey over the coming years. I recognise the incredible work done by Ginette Searle and the foundation she has built for extraordinary impact,” he said.

“I am excited to lead a ZFA fuelled by a compelling vision and exceptional people, bringing together our best hearts and minds to deliver outcomes our community feels proud of.”

ZFA president Jeremy Leibler acknowledged the critical time for the handover of leadership.

“For the past 12 years, Ginette Searle has run the ZFA with passion, and a deep understanding of the importance of the relationship between Australian Jewry and Israel,” he said.

“I want to thank Ginette for her incredible commitment and service – she has done an exemplary job – especially through these past weeks of turmoil since the attack on Israel on October 7.

“Today’s uncertain times require strong leadership, and Alon’s proven track record and dedication to the Jewish community and the Australia–Israel relationship is critical for this role,” Leibler said.

“I have no doubt that Alon is the ideal person to lead the ZFA and the Australian Jewish community into the future. We are delighted that he is joining our team.”
