New global role for communal stalwart Goot
'It is an honour and a privilege to serve on this important committee at one of the most challenging times the international Jewish community has faced'
Executive Council of Australian Jewry (ECAJ) deputy president Robert Goot has been invited by Gideon Taylor, the Chairman of the Conference on Jewish Material Claims against Germany Inc (Claims Conference), to serve on the Ad Hoc Committee on Education Allocation Priorities of the Claims Conference.
Goot is a long-standing board member and member of the Leadership Council of the Claims Conference.
The committee – which includes Claims Conference Board members and experts in the field – will examine whether in the new reality in the aftermath of October 7 and the significant upsurge in antisemitism and troubling societal trends, the priorities for the Claims Conference in allocating funding for education programs throughout the world should be expanded or adjusted over the long term.
The committee will make recommendations to the Claims Conference.
“It is an honour and a privilege to serve on this important committee at one of the most challenging times the international Jewish community has faced, and when education to combat antisemitism is so critically important,” Goot said.
