HOCKEY

Stick it with Maccabi

MACCABI Hockey Club will hold a Come & Try day on February 27 from 10am at the fields behind Elwood High School.

It will be a non-contact introductory session, guided by coaches, ahead of the club commencing pre-season training for the main winter season.

The club fields junior, men’s, women’s and masters teams – and they will be decked out in 2022 in new uniforms.

To register for the Come & Try Day, or register for a team, call Daniel Grunfeld on 0418 377 608.

ATHLETICS

PBs galore in Shield League

SEVERAL Maccabi Athletics Club athletes achieved PB times in last weekend’s Athletics Victoria Shield League round at Casey Fields and Aberfeldie.

These included Adam Benson in the 200m and the triple jump (10.89m), Ori Drabkin in the 100m (14.28), Ian Revale in the U16 shot put (11.75m) and Josh Levy in the U14 200m and also shot put.

Ben Blecher, 14, ran another very impressive 200m, into a strong headwind, in 24.68 seconds.

The last Shield League round is on Saturday, February 12 at Lakeside, and with another great performance, Maccabi has the potential to rise from third place to second.

TRIATHLON

Slonim’s superb second

IN perfect conditions for race 4 of the 2XU Triathlon series at Sandringham last Sunday, Neil Slonim came second in the men’s 65-69 age group in the sprint distance event, clocking 1 hour, 20 minutes and 47 seconds.

“I had a very strong ride, courtesy of the disc wheel lent to me by Josh Goldstat, who is currently concentrating on his running, rather than triathlons,” Slonim said, adding “It was a generous gesture”.
