After a 10-year association with JNF NSW, Jason Eisner says, “The opportunity was right” to take on the organisation’s presidency at its AGM last month.

He replaces Pam Krail, who has just completed her second term at the helm.

“I’ve been part of the JNF for a long time, it’s kind of like being part of the family,” Eisner said.

“There’s an opportunity now to reinvigorate … Israel’s turning 75 and look what we’ve accomplished so far, why not take on the opportunity to see where we can take it for the next 75 years?

“We have to be even smarter in protecting and growing the land and our environment, whether that is in Israel, Australia or the rest of the world.”

Eisner began his JNF journey 10 years ago, supporting its brand change as principal of strategy and branding consultancy BrandQuest, and has been a dedicated board member ever since.

“In that engagement we captured in two words the essence, the soul, the neshamah of the JNF – passionate cultivator,” Eisner said.

“These words describe what goes on behind the scenes every day at the JNF and what we must keep on doing into the future.”

He told The AJN, “If we can concentrate on what we can solve and if we can help protect the planet in the process, how amazing is that?

“And if we can be a light unto nations in terms of how we do that, how we protect, then I think Israel really has the ability to … help world progress.”

Eisner thanked Krail for her outstanding contribution to JNF, acknowledging that she “tirelessly” and “without fanfare”, ensured the continued success of the organisation.

The AGM also heard from JNF NSW guest speaker, American presidential historian and leading Zionist activist Professor Gil Troy.

Director of business advisory at WilliamBuck, Gil Abras, took on the position of JNF national treasurer and was acknowledged for his seven-year tenure as NSW treasurer.

Immediate past national president Peter Smaller presented the Sylvia Smaller-Winnikow Award, in memory of his late mother, to Shayna Slotar for her tireless contribution to the B’nai B’rith & JNF Jewish Changemaker Awards Committee.

Blue Box chairperson Paul Lowinger presented the JNF National and NSW Blue Box Worker of the Year Award to Jack and Maxine Klarnet, who have volunteered collecting JNF Blue Boxes in the Eastern Suburbs for over 30 years.
