JEWISH Care Victoria have reported that all positive coronavirus cases among residents at their Windsor facility have now cleared, with just five active staff cases remaining.

“It is important for our community to understand, that while any loss of life through COVID-19 is tragic, the current COVID-19 mortality rate of 28 per cent being experienced across residential aged care sector, is not what has been experienced here at Jewish Care,” said CEO Bill Appleby.
“We have sadly had two elders pass away over the last five weeks who had tested positive to COVID-19, which is a mortality rate of six per cent. This is a very pleasing outcome, and something that has been achieved through the diligence, leadership and professionalism of our staff and supporting agencies.”
While the infected staff isolate at home, testing continues on a 72-hour cycle and strict lockdown protocols are being maintained under the direction of the Department of Health and Human Services Public Health Unit.
The good news continues with Jewish Care’s Gary Smorgon House reporting all negative results for testing of residents and staff. As such, lockdown has now been lifted and the facility has moved into an active surveillance stage.
Explained Appleby, “While there are still restrictions in place, elders are no longer required to isolate in their rooms and they may again enjoy the communal areas in their home.
“We remain vigilant in adhering to the well-practised infection control protocols to combat this insidious virus.”
