Noemie Fox in fine form at nationals
Noemie Fox returned to Sydney from Tasmania's Brady Whitewater Course last week with several Canoe Slalom National Championships medals around her neck.
WHILE her older sister, world champion Jessica Fox, opted to skip last weekend’s 2019 Canoe Slalom National Championships to focus on training following recent minor shoulder surgery, Noemie Fox, 21, returned to Sydney from Tasmania’s Brady Whitewater Course with several medals around her neck.
Noemie looked slick on the natural river rapid course, powering her way through the gates to cross the line in 112.23 seconds to finish second overall in the women’s C1 (single canoe) final – won by NSW teammate Ros Lawrence (109.09) – and first in the women’s U23 division.
In the women’s K1 (single kayak) final, the Jewish paddler won bronze with a time of 108.65 seconds, just behind runner-up, Tasmanian Kate Eckhardt (108.02) and winner Lawrence (106.05).
Earlier in the women’s K1 teams event, Noemie and Lawrence teamed up with Alison Borrows to win NSW a gold medal.
Noemie and Jessica Fox will next compete together at the 2019 Sydney International Whitewater Festival from February 14-24.
2019 will be a very important season for the Fox sisters because results will determine national quota places for canoe slalom athletes for the 2020 Olympic Games.
