Oakberry Acai in Rose Bay was certified kosher this week by the Kashrut Authority (KA), the third in a string of Oakberry stores to become certified in Sydney.

It follows the certification of Oakberry Bondi Beach in 2020, and Oakberry Martin Place earlier this year, adding to the options for kosher consumers to enjoy the South American superfood acai.

The KA’s assistant administrator Rabbi Aaron Groner said the process of certifying the store, which opened earlier this month, only took a couple of weeks.

“It’s a pretty new store …[Oakberry] were very much on board and very, very helpful and willing to make all the changes that were necessary to become kosher,” Rabbi Groner said.

With the Bondi Beach location already an established hub for kosher consumers, Rabbi Groner said there was a big push from the community for more locations to become certified.

“Oakberry’s been something I’ve been working on for years, it took me a year and a half to get the first one kosher because we had to certify all the different toppings, and each topping comes from a different place …Now it’s more streamlined.

“We want to thank each franchise for their willingness and cooperation.”

Oakberry Coogee is set to become kosher certified next week, with plans to certify additional locations in Newcastle and the Gold Coast.

KA president Baron Revelman said, “It’s the more the merrier … It’s always nice to add an additional eatery to the community.”
