Political landscapeBarnaby Joyce: 'Bondi lit the fuse'

One Nation takes the lead in national polls

One Nation's rise has renewed debate over its ties to the Jewish community and antisemitism.

Nationals-turned-One Nation MP Barnaby Joyce said this week that the Bondi massacre “lit the fuse” for support for his new party.

“Migration is merely one issue. There was a political bomb ready to go off, and Bondi lit the fuse,” Joyce told The Australian on Tuesday.

The latest Sky News Pulse poll has One Nation leading Labor 29 per cent to 26 per cent on primary voting intent, while Newspoll had One Nation at 31 per cent, Labor at 30 per cent and the Coalition on 18 per cent.

In the 2025 federal election, One Nation secured only 6.4 per cent of the primary vote.

The party’s relationship with the Australian Jewish community has been mixed. Hanson supports Israel and once entered the Senate wearing an Israeli flag, saying she was “standing up for the Jewish people”.
