Outstanding opportunities

Carmel succeeding in extra-curricular activities.

Carmel is a vibrant Modern Orthodox Zionist Jewish day school that consistently ranks highly among the top performing schools in Western Australia. Carmel provides an essential and authentic educational experience to students from a range of backgrounds and has a focus on achievement, identity and belonging.

For many Carmel students, the school day does not finish with the last bell. At both the primary and high school campuses, a wide variety of extra-curricular clubs are in action each term. In the primary school, these range from robotics to Israeli dancing and from drama to first aid. In the high school, clubs include a supervised homework club, chess club, groups that participate in various science competitions and debating, and mock trials teams.

At Carmel, debating and mock trials are popular and the teams routinely perform well, punching above their weight against much larger schools. “Our Year 12 team have proven to be incredibly strong, finishing in the top 10% of schools participating and have secured a place in the finals,” said Cherie Russell, Head of Humanities and Social Sciences and the teacher in charge of Carmel’s Mock Trials teams.

Debating is another area of strength, with Carmel teams regularly placing in the State finals. The school’s current School Captain, Aviya, a member of the 2018 and 2019 winning team, balances her school and community commitments with being a member of the WA State Debating League team squad.

These outstanding academic extra-curricular experiences are encouraged by Carmel staff and parents as they result in our students gaining high levels of competency in essential skills such as critical thinking, public speaking and teamwork.
