Paramedic and Hatzolah leader honoured
Awarded on Australia Day, the veteran paramedic and founding Hatzolah operations manager reflects on service.
Danny Elbaum has received the Ambulance Service Medal for distinguished service as a member of Ambulance Victoria over more than 25 years.
Elbaum is also the founding operations manager of Chevra Hatzolah Melbourne, a role he has held for over 20 years.
He said receiving the medal on Australia Day was both deeply humbling and profoundly meaningful.
“I see this honour not as a personal achievement, but as recognition of the mentors, paramedics, Hatzolah responders and importantly my family who have shaped my journey in Ambulance, Hatzolah and patient care,” Elbaum said.
“As a member of the Jewish community, I carry with me the values of pikuach nefesh — the obligation to save and protect life — which closely aligns with the mission of Ambulance Service Victoria and Chevra Hatzolah.”
