Partnership offers support hubs
10 Sydney synagogues and Chabad branches offer support and mental health hubs for the Jewish community.
Jewish House, in a new partnership with 10 Sydney synagogues and Chabad branches, is setting up drop-in support and mental health hubs for the Jewish community.
Committed to offering support in these difficult times, Jewish House understands the heartache and challenges faced by individuals who may have family members stuck in conflicts, have lost loved ones, or are experiencing anxiety around what is unfolding in Israel.
The new partnership will create safe spaces for people to come together, support one another, enjoy a chat over coffee or tea, and find solace and connection.
There will be mental health support professionals available, including counsellors, to provide the help that individuals may need, and provide useful tips and tools on how to cope from a mental health perspective.
The organisations partnering with Jewish House in this initiative are Chabad Rose Bay, Chabad Double Bay and Chabad North Shore, plus the following synagogues: Dover Heights, Emanuel, Newtown, Mizrachi, North Shore, the Great and North Shore Temple Emanuel.
Jewish House CEO Rabbi Mendel Kastel, said part of the strength of the initiative is that “people want to come together, share their experiences, and chat with others in a safe space, and that’s what this initiative provides”.
“Depending on demand for this service, through registrations, the number of drop-in hubs and when they will operate will be determined.
“But we’re making them available to be held in these 10 organisations, the venues are all happy to host them, and we have therapists and support teams who are happy to support this program.”
