Partnership resumes social program
JEWISHCARE and Parramatta and District Synagogue have had a long-term partnership that resulted in regular social events, bringing congregants – young and old – together on Sunday afternoons.
Activities ranged from movie screenings in the shule’s hall, to simple afternoon tea get-togethers.
After a prolonged hiatus of social events at Parramatta Synagogue due to the pandemic, Rabbi Roni Cohavi, and JewishCare – led by program coordinator Valerie Rubel – have resumed that active partnership, and a return to regular social events for the congregation through the shule’s social club.
Its first event in 2022, called Israel Day, was held on Sunday, August 21, and featured Israeli food, a presentation, and Israeli music.
It was very successful, drawing 80 congregants, who had a wonderful time.
One of them was Leah Shelton, who at 92, is the last remaining member of the original Ladies’ Guild of Parramatta Synagogue.
More events are planned for the remainder of the year.
