Permanent memorial among $8.3m support package
'For the Jewish and broader Bondi community, this funding provides not just practical assistance, but reassurance that we are not facing this alone'

The NSW Government has announced an $8.3 million support package for the Jewish and Bondi communities, six months on from the Bondi Beach terror attack.
Announced on Sunday by Premier Chris Minns, Minister for Multiculturalism Steve Kamper and Minister for Recovery Janelle Saffin, the package focuses on long-term recovery, wellbeing initiatives and community safety. The government said it came at a critical point for those affected, amid heightened public focus following the recent Royal Commission on Antisemitism and Social Cohesion hearings.
The largest allocations are $2 million to Waverley Council for a permanent memorial honouring the lives lost in the attack and the community’s response in the days that followed, and a further $2 million for wellbeing and recovery initiatives such as community forums, school-based support and trauma-informed programs. The Sydney Jewish Museum will receive $2.6 million for redevelopment works, including new exhibitions on modern antisemitism.
The NSW Jewish Board of Deputies (JBD) will receive a $1 million grant to maintain ongoing support services, with an additional $200,000 for Multicultural NSW to deliver community support grants in partnership with the board. The Community Security Group (CSG) NSW will receive $500,000 to continue the work of its 24-hour Security Operations Centre for the next six months.
The funding builds on support already provided by the NSW and federal governments, including $2.9 million in recovery payments for victims and families, $7.3 million in assistance for affected small businesses, and millions more for case coordination, mental health support and legal assistance.
