PM at Adass school
Following Prime Minister Anthony Albanese's earlier commitment to help reconstruct the Adass shule, the PM was welcomed by community leaders and students on a recent visit.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese was welcomed by community leaders and students when he visited the Adass Israel School in Melbourne.
The visit followed the PM’s earlier commitment to help reconstruct the Adass shule, gutted by arson in December, with damage estimated at $25-40 million. Albanese inspected the fire-ravaged synagogue on December 10 but was widely criticised for not visiting immediately after the Decenber 6 firebombing.
During Monday’s school visit, Albanese met with Adass campaign director Chaim Klein, who said afterwards, “We are really grateful they took the time to visit us. At the same time, they reaffirmed their support for our community.”
Calling the firebombing “a vile act of cruelty against a tight-knit community”, the PM told The AJN, “I was warmly welcomed to Adass Israel School yesterday, and am grateful for the opportunity to speak with the synagogue’s board once again.”
Macnamara MP Josh Burns told The AJN, “When the Prime Minister and I went to visit the Adass community after their synagogue and hall was firebombed, he made them a promise – that he would come and visit the school to see the strength and pride of the Jewish people. Despite the destruction and loss the Adass community has felt, they welcomed the Prime Minister with open arms … We have more work to do to support the community in the rebuild of their beloved synagogue.”
