IN one of her first public speaking engagements, Jenny Morrison, the wife of Prime Minister Scott Morrison, will discuss her difficult journey to parenthood at an event hosted by the Australian Jewish Fertility Network (AJFN) on October 30 at the Chauvel Cinema.

“I would like to think I can bring hope to those going through infertility – that it can happen even when it seems hopeless. I also hope to help others in the community to be mindful of people who might be experiencing infertility,” said Morrison, who will join Mary Coustas (Effie) and Channel Nine presenter Peter Overton to bring the conversation into the open.

Moderated by national political editor of The Daily Telegraph, Sharri Markson, the event, called “Conversations for the Soul”, will explore their infertility stories, giving an insight into their challenging journey to become parents.

Acknowledging that infertility is not just a “woman’s problem”, the AJFN is encouraging both men and women to join the Conversations for the Soul event.

AJFN board director Rob Lederer remarked, “We know that the conversation around fertility support often focuses on the female partner … Men often feel left out, helpless and guilty, yet they very rarely seek support for themselves.

“While our previous events have been aimed at women, this year our event will feature both male and female perspectives and we encourage couples to come along, as we join together to show our support for those in the community who are struggling to fulfil their dreams of creating a family.”

In the past year, AJFN has expanded its services, and now offers emotional support and education events free of charge to the Jewish community. The organisation also offers financial support to couples in the Jewish community who cannot afford the cost of fertility treatment.

Eleven couples are currently waiting for AJFN’s assistance. All proceeds from the evening will assist couples who cannot meet IVF costs.
