PREMIER Daniel Andrews has paid St Kilda Shule another visit, attending its Saturday Shabbat service alongside congregants this past weekend.

President of St Kilda Shule Janice Iloni-Furstenberg said they were “delighted” that Andrews attended the Shabbat service and kiddush over the weekend.

Iloni-Furstenberg told The AJN, “We value the Premier’s ongoing friendship and look forward to strengthening our relationship with him even further.”

Rabbi of the shule Rabbi Yaakov Glasman said, “Premier Andrews has for years been an incredibly strong supporter of the State of Israel and friend of the Jewish community.

“He has always expressed a keen interest in learning more about the various customs and traditions of our faith. We are delighted to have played a significant role in assisting the Premier to do so and are particularly heartened by the wonderfully positive feedback he gave us about our unique choral service.”

Andrews told The AJN he was “honoured” to attend St Kilda Shule for the Shabbat service to “experience the warmth of Victoria’s richest asset, our multicultural and multifaith communities”.

“I not only had the opportunity to experience a Shabbat morning service – but also to celebrate two congregants who have made an incredible contribution to both the Jewish community and Victorian community as a whole, Anton Block and Miriam Bass,” Andrews said, adding “Congratulations to Anton and Miriam on their King’s Birthday Honours.”
