IT was a mixed weekend for the Ajax Junior Football Club, which managed one premiership flag from two grand final outings.
The under-12 Jets made it two premierships in as many seasons after a stunning come-from-behind win against East Brighton White 6.7 (43) to 5.4 (34). After managing just three goals in three quarters, the Jets shifted gear in the final stanza, piling on three goals and limiting the minor premiers to a solitary behind.
Pitted against a taller, stronger opponent, the Jets’ skill and pace proved the difference in the nine-point win. Capping off a stellar season, Ashley Krakouer was named the best player on the ground, adding to his third place in the Moorabbin Junior Saints Football League best and fairest competition, as well as captaining Victoria at the recent schools competition in Western Australia.
The under-11 Jets fell at the final hurdle, going down to Mordialloc Braeside in a thriller 5.6 (36) to 4.3 (27).
The side was unable to put the finishing touches on an outstanding season, as Mordy Braeside restricted the Jets to just 1.1 in the¬† second and third terms. The side fought back hard in the fourth¬† quarter, but it wasn’t to be, with just a kick separating the evenly¬† matched sides at the final siren.
