Premier’s support for Israel
NSW Premier Kristina Keneally told guests at the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies annual Yom‚ÄàHa’atzmaut cocktail function last week that her government supports Israel’s right to defend itself and that it backs a two-state solution.
Addressing the event on May 12, Keneally said the Israelis and Palestinians need to find common ground.
She also compared Israel to NSW, saying both are multicultural.
“While established as a Jewish state, Israel is also the home for other faiths,” she said.
“Nearly 30 per cent of Israel’s population are not of the Jewish faith, and that diversity is part of Israel’s strength.”
More than 550 people attended the function.
