Project-specific funding for JNF

MORE than 650 people heard about how Australian donations will directly affect the lives of Israelis at the Jewish National Fund’s (JNF) gala dinner on Monday night.

JNF president Alex Abulafia said the organisation had always focused on regions within Israel, but from this year it would focus on specific projects to allow donors to see tangible results.

“This year, that project is water treatment at Kibbutz Erez, which is 600 metres from the border with Gaza, in the Negev,” Abulafia said at the dinner, at the Australian Jockey Club.

“This is a 50-50 funding venture between the state of Israel and the JNF. JNF NSW’s component will be about $1 million and any additional money will go towards additional projects,” he said.

Former Jerusalem Post editor David Horovitz also spoke at the dinner.

“We have some wonderful international friends, with Australia very high on the list. I should stress to this JNF audience, that while I can’t tell you

exactly what my son Josh is doing in the army, he is at a base where he is particularly aware of JNF Australia’s connection to the Negev. It’s near Be’er Sheva and located close to the water-reclamation facility at Kibbutz Hatzerim that was made possible by donations by someone in this community.”

Abulafia told The AJN on Tuesday that the function was a success.“We are very confident that our target will be met.”
