Families, and adults of all ages, got into the colour and spirit of Purim at parties held at synagogues, an inner city hotel, and even a family home in the Blue Mountains. The common ingredient was fun.

Kids at Sydney’s Jewish schools, and through BJE, Jewish students at public schools, enjoyed Purim-themed costumes, lessons and activities last week.

Hundreds of children from the community worked hard to pack gift bags and write heartwarming notes for children in hospital, that were distributed over the Purim holiday.

By last Friday more than 2000 packages were already on their way to Sydney hospitals, with the distribution continuing over subsequent days.

“The essence of the holiday is finding the hidden miracles in our lives despite the challenges … what better way to celebrate than giving back to these young children,” said Sydney Shul’s Rabbi Chaim Levy.

“Although visitors are still not permitted in hospitals, the joy of the holiday will reach everyone.”
