Twelve and Thirteen is thrilled to announce an exciting new partnership with the incredible team at UJEB.
In 2022 we will be providing UJEB participants with hands-on volunteering sessions as part of the social action component of their bat mitzvah program.
At Twelve and Thirteen, we are all about growing the next generation of givers and we are excited to work with UJEB to provide their cohort with a broader understanding of social justice issues through volunteering with some of Melbourne’s most impactful charities. Since 2015, Twelve and Thirteen has brought something different to the bar and bat mitzvah offering, providing families with the opportunity to mark this rite of passage in a truly unique way.
“At Twelve and Thirteen, it’s not about dropping off to do good,” chair of Twelve and Thirteen, Tammie Slade, said. “Our young people are joined by a parent or grandparent in each session. It makes for a special and memorable year of growth and giving, together.”
Twelve and Thirteen is designed as a standalone program focused on giving back through hands-on volunteering with Melbourne’s leading Jewish and non-Jewish charities, including Youth Projects, Helping Hoops, Emmy Monash, Smile on Seniors, Share the Dignity, Koala Kids, Make a Wish, C Care, Access, Eat Up, Jewish Climate Network and Impact.
Families gain behind the scenes access often closed to the public and each session is focused on a different social justice issue and impact generator. Twelve and Thirteen caters to every b’nei mitzvah child and is pluralistic, inclusive and rewarding. The program can be done in conjunction with other bar or bat mitzvah programs.
“The Twelve and Thirtreen program is such a good fit for UJEB,” UJEB executive principal, Itzik Sztokman, said. “The uniqueness of UJEB’s bat mitzvah program is in its partnerships. Collaborating with the National Council of Jewish Women of Australia (Vic), the Jewish Museum and now Twelve and Thirteen enables and empowers girls to develop their own identities as young Jewish women.
“A key part of this learning is around social action. Partnering with Twelve and Thirteen provides us with a powerful platform for our girls to discover how they can help those in need and shape future thinking of key issues facing our community and society as a whole”. The partnership with UJEB is a first for Twelve and Thirteen in broadening its program reach; and is one that will continue to enable this grass roots organisation to deliver on its vision to GIVE: Good deeds, Impact, Variety and Experiential.
