Rambam returnees reflect on Israel trip
Four journalists who participated in the Australia/Israel & Jewish Affairs Council's Rambam program have shared their experiences at a luncheon in Melbourne.

FOUR journalists shared their experiences following their return from the AIJAC Rambam Program last week.
Editor of the Hobart Mercury, Chris Jones; The Age’s news director, Michelle Griffin; deputy chief of staff of The Advertiser (Adelaide), Erin Jones; and Tasmania Talks host Brian Carlton, participated in the Israel-based program.
With access to a variety of Israeli and Palestinian viewpoints, attendees commented on the intensity and contrast of beliefs that were found, and noted that the situation is more nuanced than is often depicted in the media.
They attributed journalists who lock into a pre-determined position on the state of affairs, a lack of correspondents based in the region, a simplistic understanding of the relationship, and poor journalism which confuses cause and effect, as just some of the challenges to accurate reporting of the conflict.
