Rare Rabin exhibition goes on show

FOR the first time on Australian shores, an exhibition featuring rare photography and exclusive video content sourced directly from the Rabin Centre in Tel Aviv will explore and commemorate the life and legacy of the late Israeli prime minister and Nobel Prize-winning peacemaker Yitzhak Rabin.
Starting with a virtual live launch via its Facebook site from 6.30pm on November 4 – the 25th anniversary of Rabin’s tragic assassination – B’nai B’rith NSW will host the six-month Unity exhibition at its headquarters at the University of NSW’ Kensington campus.
The depth of material ranges from family photos from Rabin’s childhood years, personal insights and recollections from his early military career, right through to charting his journey into politics, what drove his devotion to pursuing peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians, and excerpts of eulogies from world leaders who attended his funeral.

Curator Alexandra Hillman told The AJN, “Rabin remains such a galvanising figure … and as visitors explore the exhibition, they will be encouraged to connect to the values he stood for – democracy, leadership, unity, and above all, peace.
“The exhibition shows the impact Rabin had as Israel’s leader in many ways – for example, when he met King Hassan II in Morocco, President Suharto in Indonesia, and Pope John Paul II in Vatican City.”
Hillman revealed her favourite item on display is a photo of then US president Bill Clinton assisting Rabin to put on a tie during an official reception at the White House. “To me it says so much about Rabin’s approach to leadership. He wasn’t a career politician – his core motivation was his sense of civic duty to do good.”
Unity is sponsored by the Embassy of Israel, Eitan Neishlos and Lee Levi, in cooperation with the Rabin Centre in Tel Aviv and major Australian Jewish organisations.
