Bar & Bat Mitzvah

Real Bar/Bat Mitzvahs: Maytal Almagor

“We just kept optimistic, persevered and moved on.”

Preparing for a bat mitzvah is an exciting and nerve-wracking time – throw in a pandemic and things can get even more hectic.

But for Maytal Almagor, the responsibility of becoming a young Jewish adult was too important, and she feels very lucky that not only was she able to celebrate her bat mitzvah, but she was also able to have her family Shabbat dinner as well.

“Having to do most of our learnings online because of COVID was hard because we couldn’t do all the things that had been planned for the year, including our mother-daughter bat mitzvah weekend,” Maytal said, explaining though that she found it easier knowing her friends were going through the same thing. “We just kept optimistic, persevered and moved on.”

Maytal ended up being one of the few girls able to celebrate her simcha, which, while very special, was also very stressful, especially for her parents Ronit and Ilan, who ended up planning the event in just three weeks with the help of events planner Nat Roth of P2P.

You never would have known though. “Everyone came with their party shoes and really let loose,” Maytal said. “It felt like absolute freedom for everyone and was such an awesome party feeling.”

For her parents, watching their daughter mature through the process was incredible. “She has a level of maturity that came with the rollercoaster ride of not knowing what was happening,” Ronit said.

While they ended up having to watch Maytal’s ceremony online, they feel privileged they were able to celebrate, even bringing some nostalgia to the celebrations by calling the girls from Maytal’s class up to light a candle at the reception.
