Recognition for AJN journalist

AJN sports editor Adam Blau has been recognised for his “above and beyond” coverage of Hakoah Sydney City East Football Club’s 2014 season, receiving the Football New South Wales media award.

AJN sports editor Adam Blau has been recognised for his “above and beyond” coverage of Hakoah Sydney City East Football Club’s 2014 season, receiving the Football New South Wales media award.

Blau beat out competition from at least 15 other publications to pick up the honour.

He was recognised for shedding light on Hakoah’s eventful and impressive year as it was crowned champions of the Men’s State League 1 and for the side’s involvement in the Westfield FFA Cup.

Football NSW’s media manager Mark Stavroulakis told The AJN that recognising Blau was a “no-brainer”, praising the journalist for his ongoing support for both the league and the team.

“He heavily promoted Hakoah and we wanted to acknowledge him for his efforts and also, we wanted to acknowledge an ethnic paper, with a strong tight-knit community, for their hard work”.

Describing the award as a “tremendous honour”, Blau added, “This would never have happened if it weren’t for the great team at The AJN.”

He said it was a “pleasure” covering Hakoah and acknowledged the team for its “hugely successful season”.

“We’ve started a new relationship with Hakoah after a few years of not covering them so I’d like to thank The AJN for allowing me to report on them and I feel this will prove to be a very successful relationship in the future”.

Hakoah president Michael Katz congratulated Blau and said his articles have generated a lot of support for the club.

“He has been a big factor in the amazing crowds at the FFA cup and at the Grand Final last week. His coverage in The AJN has been a big part of creating community awareness and interest and a whole bunch of players have come back to our coven thanks to the profile. He has made a huge impact.”
