Record participants in Maccabi-AJAX junior cricket

IT’S been an action-packed summer so far for Maccabi-AJAX Junior Cricket Club, which has been able to field 16 teams – including two girls’ sides – resulting in a record 167 participants.

After 5 rounds of the 13-round Inner South East Cricket junior competition, the club’s U17B team is coming second.

In round 4, Nadav Lowinger scored an unbeaten 57 off 44 balls to guide Maccabi to a dominant win over Malvern/Carnegie.

Lior Meyerowitz bowled a devastating spell of 3/6 to help secure the 88-run victory.

And in round 5 last Sunday, Ben Casper scored an unbeaten 59 to lead Maccabi to a 7-wicket win over Mckinnon. The club’s U15 Titans have earned a promotion to A Grade – one of the top U15 competitions in the state – and are currently sitting in 5th place.

Maccabi’s U13 Chargers and U13 Colts remain undefeated, and are on top of their respective A and B grade ladders.

Asher Kave is the leading run-scorer for the Chargers, with consecutive scores of 38 not out, 34, and 29 no out.

Mitch Goldenberg and Ethan Sacks are leading the division for wickets taken. Goldenberg produced brilliant figures of 4/19 against Glen Iris in round 3.

For the Colts, Ashton Zohar top-scored with 53 not out, and Zac Berley has been a model of consistency, scoring 111 runs in four innings, with a top score of 35 not out.

In girls’ cricket, Gigi Goldman has taken 7 wickets so far, including an incredicle 4/0 off 3 overs in one match.

This weekend will be the last round of cricket before the end of year break.
