WITH equal opportunity a hot-button issue in the state at the moment, Attorney-General Rob Hulls discussed the matter with the Rabbinical Council of Victoria (RCV) late last month.

Hulls spoke about changes to legislation, which prevent religious groups from discriminating against some sectors of the community.

RCV president Rabbi Meir Shlomo Kluwgant welcomed the legislative changes, but told Hulls that the law needs to take into account that “race and religion are very much two sides of the same coin when it comes to Jewish identity”.

“Accordingly, where religion-based discrimination is to be permitted, the matter of race must also be taken into account,” Rabbi Kluwgant said.
