FOUNDER and CEO of national food rescue charity OzHarvest Ronni Kahn received a key to the city last week at a special ceremony at the Town Hall.

Kahn received the honour for her tireless work helping to reduce hunger and fight food waste.

Kahn and NSW OzHarvest partnered with the City of Sydney throughout the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure people had access to fresh produce, food hampers and pre-made home-cooked meals.

“As an immigrant of this country, as a white woman who is a visitor on this Gadigal land, it is truly my honour to be received here and to receive the city’s trust. Of all the cities I have lived in, this is my most precious,” Kahn wrote on social media.

Kahn, who was born in South Africa, founded OzHarvest in Sydney in 2004 after noticing the huge volume of food going to waste. It has since grown to become Australia’s leading food rescue organisation.

Kahn was presented the key

by Lord Mayor Clover Moore, who said Kahn has done “immeasurable good”.

“Offering a key to the city is the highest honour I can bestow, and Ronni is a very worthy recipient,” Moore wrote on social media.

“From one van in Sydney to a national operation, she has created a solution to food waste while feeding the most vulnerable members of our society.”

Kahn responded, “Thank you to Lord Mayor and the City of Sydney who [have] embraced everything we do at OzHarvest.

“To my family, friends, OzHarvest board members, partners, supporters, my team and our wonderful volunteers – you all fill me with joy. Together, let’s continue to nourish this wonderful city and this wonderful country, and all its diverse people.”
