Mount Scopus Memorial College (MSMC) has wrapped up another one of its impressive productions, with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory hailed a sweet success.

Over 100 students from years 7 to 12 both on stage and behind the scenes brought the beloved timeless tale to life over three packed performances.

Colour, creativity and boundless imagination filled the stage, as students showcased months of hard work and dedication.

Audiences were dazzled by the custom-made sets, costumes, the use of multimedia and a host of special effects, which wowed the crowd when they least expected it.

The production featured distinct musical and dance styles, from ballads to techno, ballet and hip-hop.

“The diversity allowed students the opportunity to explore a wide range of genres, which challenged them artistically and allowed their talents to shine,” said MSMC.

Standing ovations at each show was proof of the standout performances by Marlon Priester as Willy Wonka and Gracie Wiesner as Charlie Bucket, together with all the other actors, singers and dancers who took to the stage.

No production of this scale happens without the tireless efforts of those who worked behind the scenes. The orchestra, tech, costume crews, creative team and front of house all helped to create something truly special.

“At its core, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a story about imagination, hope and the power of dreaming big – values we celebrate every day through our performing arts program,” said MSMC.

The school said it is proud of the sense of community, teamwork, collaboration, energy and passion that was fostered throughout the experience for all of those involved, adding, “Our biggest thank you to Gideon Szental, our producer and director, and Jaimee White, our choreographer and assistant producer for leading the way and bringing magic to the stage. And to everyone else involved, thank you for your professionalism and delivering a production to be proud of and creating an opportunity to bring the whole community together.”
