A SECOND resident diagnosed with COVID-19 has passed away at Jewish Care Victoria’s Hannah and Daryl Cohen Family Building in Windsor.

Jewish Care stated on Tuesday night, “Sadly, today we must inform the community that an elder at our residential home in Windsor who last week tested positive to COVID-19 passed away.”

They added, “The family who visited during these precious last days were deeply appreciative of the care provided by our dedicated staff in ensuring the elder’s wishes were met in a dignified and compassionate manner.”

Offering his “most heartfelt sympathies” to the family, Jewish Care CEO Bill Appleby said, “Jewish Care have contacted the elder’s family directly to convey our condolences and offer any support we can.”

The resident’s death follows the passing of another resident at the Windsor facility who tested positive to COVID-19 earlier this month.

The organisation stated the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) has provided clearance for 23 residents and several staff, which means they are no longer considered infectious. Active case numbers at the facility are down to eight residents and 16 staff as of Tuesday evening.

Meanwhile, a kitchen worker on contract to Jewish Care who last worked at Gary Smorgon House on August 23 has tested positive to COVID-19. The contractor is isolating at home and Jewish Care stated, “No elders currently in the home, or other staff have been identified as having any signs or symptoms.”

Gary Smorgon House residents will remain in their rooms and full PPE protocols will be reinstated. Testing of all residents and staff will be coordinated with DHHS.
