MUCH-NEEDED communal security upgrades are a step closer after $2.2 million in funding pledged during last year’s Wentworth by-election campaign was officially approved.

“It’s very pleasing to have received confirmation that the funding for the NSW Jewish Community CCTV Eastern Suburbs upgrade project is underway,” Council for Jewish Community Security chairman Peter Wise said.

“We thank Wentworth MP Dave Sharma for his commitment to the project and we expect that work on the upgrade will commence shortly.”

NSW Jewish Board of Deputies president Lesli Berger said, “We are incredibly grateful to the federal government for recognising the security needs of the Jewish community.”

Sharma said, “I attach a very high priority to the continued safety and vitality of the Jewish community. It is a priority shared by the Prime Minister.”
