IN an unprecedented event, certainly in recent memory, Melbourne celebrated two new Sefer Torahs on the same day.

On Sunday June 28 at Spiritshul, more than 250 people witnessed the completion of a new Torah, dedicated by Steven and Kathy Smorgon and the family of Joe and Estelle Brown. The Torah follows Spiritshul’s creative ethos being made of all natural, kosher products.

Later that afternoon at Daminyan, a small Chabad congregation for young people, more than 500 people danced and sang at twilight to welcome its first Torah. Following the traditional procession, formalities continued with a dinner at Kimberley Gardens.
