Newly appointed Special Envoy to Combat Antisemitism Jillian Segal will make her first public appearance since assuming the role at an event next week to coincide with the Melbourne launch of Alex Ryvchin’s book, The 7 Deadly Myths – Antisemitism from the Time of Christ to Kanye West.

Segal, the immediate past president of the Executive Council of Australian Jewry (ECAJ), will appear alongside Ryvchin and ECAJ president Daniel Aghion at the Fight Against Antisemitism discussion and Q&A in Caulfield. JCCV president Philip Zajac will open the event.

The event comes amid one of the most challenging times we have faced as a community, and will discuss the generational battle for the Jewish people.

“This will be Jillian’s first public appearance in her new role and will also be the official Melbourne launch of my latest book,” Ryvchin told The AJN.

“The themes of the book are playing out before our eyes.”

All proceeds from sales of the book will go to WIZO Australia’s Lev Echad group, which embarks on programs in Israel to support the underprivileged.

Last month, Segal was appointed as Australia’s first Special Envoy to Combat Antisemitism for a three-year term.

“Combating antisemitism in Australia has never been more important than it is today,” Segal said at the time.

“I look forward to working with stakeholders across the community to deliver a safer future for my community, and to strengthen social cohesion and drive a strong, informed and deliberate approach to combating antisemitism.”

The Fight Against Antisemitism: Thursday, August 15, 6.30pm start at a Caulfield location. Bookings: ecaj.org.au/fight-against-antisemitism.
