Antisemitism envoy Jillian Segal will soon be launching four short videos for business leaders and school principals, along with accompanying explanations, to assist in combating antisemitism.

Speaking to a packed room at the Courage to Care annual fundraising lunch last week, Segal said the videos will deal with issues around what is Judaism, what is antisemitism, the contribution of Jews to the country, as well as Israel and Gaza.

“I’ve also laid the groundwork for their distribution to all public school teachers,” said Segal.

“I’ve been working together with the Islamophobia envoy, Aftab Malik and secretary of the Department of Education Murat Dizdar, and we produced a video together to go out to all school principals, which is just going to be distributed at the beginning of next term, about antisemitism and Islamophobia. The materials to follow to help them understand are my four videos, plus the explanatory material. I hope these videos will land well with the teachers.”

Courage to Care CEO Ed St John said the programs delivered by Courage to Care “have a simple goal – to create the next generation of upstanders”.

“Upstanders who will reject discrimination, reject racism and, of course, reject antisemitism. Some of these young people will become our future politicians, community leaders and be prominent in our media. Each one of them will grow up knowing that they can make a difference,” he said.

St John added that as a non-Jewish Australian, he is “appalled and ashamed by the recent rise of antisemitism”.

“We live in a wonderful multicultural society, many would say the most successful multicultural society in the world, but our social fabric has been badly torn of late and I believe we share a collective responsibility to address this problem and solve it, so that future generations won’t live in a society that tolerates antisemitism or racism of any kind.”
