The Joint Australia have partnered with community organisation C Care to raise funds towards the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

This week marks a year since the start of the war, so for Shabbat this Friday, February 24, the community will be coming together for a “Shabbat for Ukraine”, lighting an extra candle and saying a prayer for those affected by the conflict.

On this special Shabbat, C Care, which provides support for individuals and families experiencing food insecurity and social isolation, will be making and selling packs containing two small freshly-baked challot, candles and a prayer sheet.

These packs will be sold from the C Care hub at 2 Bath Street, St Kilda, from 9-11am on Friday, February 24 for $10, with all proceeds going directly to The Joint’s Ukrainian Winter Appeal.

The Joint have been at the forefront of the war efforts since the invasion of Ukraine one year ago, providing life-saving support to those who need it most in the affected regions.

Both The Joint and C Care ask those who partake in the special “Shabbat for Ukraine,” to light Shabbat candles and together with those gathered say, “May the Source of all light, bless and safeguard the people of Ukraine and keep them safe and secure during this time of uncertainty.

“We pray for a swift end to all hostilities and may we all live together in peace.”

To pre-order your challot, please contact Simonne Winecier on 0409 523 531 or email simonnewi@jdc.org to place your order.
