The 2022 Maccabi Australia Snow Sports Championships were held last week at Mount Buller.

Skiers and snowboarders, ranging from six to 60 years old, competed across age divisions. Despite the challenging conditions – soft, wet snow – there were some standout performances.

Siblings Henry and Sarah Orner were extremely strong, both recording the overall fastest times for men and women. Henry just beat out his father Michael Orner to claim the family honours.

Other notable performances were juniors Leo Almagor, Jacob Rogers, Peta Orner, Macy Vorchheimer, Orli Bell and Finn Goldsmith who won the heavily contested junior division races.

In the senior competition, Blake James-Wurzel, Sienna Vorchheimer and Jeremy Nudel, as well as the Orner siblings, won their respective divisions. Joshua Krate won the Division 3 snowboard title, while Natasha Mandie and Michael Orner won the adult ski races. Peter Rubinstein won the adult snowboard race.

The Championships were preceded by a Sunday night social event at the Mt Buller Air-Zone, with 50 children enjoying the trampolines.

Thanks went to major sponsor Michelle Coppel from Michael Coppel Entertainment and trophy sponsor David Cooper from Safety Dave, while Auscamp ran the event on behalf of the AJAX Ski Club.
