MACCABIAH GAMES

Smorgon visits Israel ahead of Maccabiah Games

Barry Smorgon, Australia’s head of delegation for the 2022 Maccabiah Games, returned from a trip to Israel last week with some Australian Maccabiah leadership group members.

They attended planning meetings for the Games, which will be held this July, joining 150 delegates from the Diaspora.

Also in attendance were 60 young Maccabi leaders from around the world, including NSW Maccabi board member Jodi Valek, who took part in a leadership development session.

Australia will send a 560-strong team of athletes to the 21st Maccabiah, making it the third-largest delegation, plus an anticipated 500 supporters, and scores of coaches and team managers.

The Maccabiah Games will be held in Israel from July 12-26 in Jerusalem, Haifa, Netanya, and Tel Aviv, and the Australian team will arrive there on July 6 for a pre-Games training camp.
