In an inspiring display of compassion and community spirit, a committee of years 10 to 12 girls alongside the tzedakah captains, recently organised a charity event The Great Chop.

The initiative was in support of Zichron Menachem, an Israeli organisation that provides vital care and support to children battling cancer.

Over 60 girls cut and donated their hair, contributing to a cause that goes beyond monetary aid.

Each braid symbolised hope and solidarity with children undergoing cancer treatment, who often lose their hair due to chemotherapy.

The hair will be used to create wigs, bringing comfort and confidence to those who need it most.

In addition to hair donations, the event rallied the entire high school, with students actively participating in fundraising.

Their collective efforts raised $40,000 for Zichron Menachem, a sum that will make a significant difference in the lives of patients and their families.

Chaya Kantor, one of the tzedakah captains and a key organiser of the event, reflected on the success and impact of The Great Chop, “Being part of such a large fundraising campaign and seeing all our hard work come to life has been incredible.

“I am immensely proud to be part of this school and to stand alongside my peers who have dedicated themselves to organising and fundraising.

“Cutting my hair is just a small contribution, but it’s my way of making a difference in the lives of others,” she added.

Her dedication, along with that of her peers, has left a lasting impression on the entire school community.

Yamit Glasman, head of students, who oversaw the event and campaign, praised the students for their enthusiasm and commitment.

“What our students managed to organise and facilitate, while being full-time students, is nothing short of amazing.”

She highlighted the importance of such initiatives in nurturing a sense of responsibility, empathy and leadership among the students.

The Great Chop is not just a one-time event but a testament to the importance of giving back to the community that is instilled in each student at Beth Rivkah College.
