At the NSW Junior State Age Long Course Swimming Championships last weekend, Maccabi NSW Swim Club’s Awen Hiroti competed in three events, and posted PBs to qualify for two 11 girls’ finals, coming sixth in the 50 free (29.79 seconds) and eighth in the 50 breaststroke (40.56).

Ryan Miller, 10, and Mia Spiro, 11, represented Kincoppal-Rose Bay (KRB) in individual events.

Miller’s best result was 45th in the 50 free, and Spiro’s was 44th in the 50 fly.

KRB were also represented in relay events by Miller, Spiro, 12-year-old Jasmin Ezekiel, and 13-year-old Oliver Silver.

And Randwick City’s Caleb Blicblau came 32nd in the 10 boys’ 50 breaststroke.

Meanwhile, at last week’s 2023 CDSSA Championships, Moriah College’s squad (pictured) won the team trophy, and the seniors point score comp, while Emanuel School also impressed, coming third.

Moriah completed the event with six age champions: Ethan Hammerschlag (13 boys), Samuel Mervis (14 boys), Ella Leshetz (16 girls), Cody Davis (17 boys), Tamryn Schubert (18 girls), and Arin Fine (18 boys).

Emanuel School had two age champions: Jake Rosenfeld (12 boys), and Aviv Farhy (14 girls).

CRICKET

Segal plays in semis

The third grade 2023 NSW Premier Cricket season came to an end for talented 19-year-old batter Joshua Segal and his Randwick-Petersham team last weekend in the semi-finals, when a drawn result against Parramatta saw them bow out.

Nevertheless, the 2022 Maccabiah Games Australian men’s squad member can feel proud of his contribution to the team, which finished the regular season in first place with 10 wins and only two losses.

Although he only scored eight runs in the semi, Segal had a very consistent season with the bat, especially in the last two months, when he made scores of 14, 33, 57 not out, and 32.

RUGBY

Try time in first trial

After a solid pre-season, Maccabi NSW Rugby Club played its first trial game in 2023 last Saturday at their Lyne Park home ground, cruising to a 39-0 win over the Sydney Convicts.

It was a good early sign for the Blues, for what will be their first Subbies rugby season in two years, due to them opting out in 2022 for the Maccabiah Games.
