CYCLING

Riding high in Sydney’s Spring Cycle

MORE than 100 members of the North Shore’s Jewish community got last Sunday off to an early and energetic start when they formed a giant team to participate together in the Spring Cycle bike ride and walking event.

The active get-together was organised by Go North – a group that promotes the positive Jewish lifestyle that’s available in Sydney’s north.

Starting in North Sydney, they joined thousands of others along the spectacular course, which included the Harbour Bridge and Darling Harbour.

The Spring Cycle provided a chance to cycle on car-free traffic lanes on the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

JUNIOR FOOTBALL

Maccabi-Hakoah lose tight semi

EASTERN Suburbs Football Association 2022 U14 boys’ division 1 premiers, Maccabi-Hakoah, played their hearts out in their Football NSW Champion of Champions tournament semi-final at Heffron last Sunday, but bowed out with a 1-2 loss against Pitt Town FC.

Playing a fast brand of attacking football, Pitt Town were first to score, 20 minutes into the game, and held that lead at the break.

The match got physical early in the second half, with yellow cards issued and free kicks awarded to players from both sides.

Pitt Town made it 2-0 with a penalty goal, but the Maccabi boys hit back minutes later via a penalty goal by Jesse Buchman.

Despite executing promising attacking raids and passing well in the latter stages, Maccabi-Hakoah were unable to break Pitt Town’s defence.

But they can be proud of making it so far in the tournament, and posting a gutsy 3-2 quarter-final win the week before over White City FC.
