CAULFIELD Hebrew Congregation (CHC) has stood down a staff member over a serious allegation.

The synagogue’s board released a statement on Monday night after rumours had begun to circulate in the community.

“Last week, Caulfield Hebrew Congregation became aware that an allegation had been made against a CHC staff member. In accordance with our policies and reporting obligations, we immediately began working with the appropriate authorities,” the statement said.

“The staff member has been stood down pending the investigation by those authorities.

“The matter is now the subject of ongoing external processes, and the board continues to be guided by the relevant authorities.”

The board has encouraged anyone with concerns to reach out to president Howard Zeimer or to contact Victoria Police.

When contacted by The AJN on Tuesday, Zeimer declined to offer any further comment.

Police have not indicated whether they have had any further information presented to them regarding the incident.

In a separate development, Rachel Mihalovich, the shule’s CEO, has resigned, but The AJN understands her departure is not in any way linked to the incident reported to police.
