Stars sing for lockdown
'By putting on a night like this for Melbourne and the rest of the world in lockdown, we’re saying we are here with you and here for you'.
STARS from all over Australia will join together this Saturday night, September 26, to send a “musical love letter” to the Jewish community of Melbourne.
The live, online concert is an initiative of the Dunera Project – the platform conceived in the shadow of COVID-19 to bring music, laughter, arts and culture to people in isolation.
The free event, entitled To Melbourne With Love, will feature performances by musicians including Elena Kats-Chernin, Nadav Kahn, Old Man River, Glassbreakers, Nicky Kurta, Baby et Lulu, Marcia Hines, Shannon Noll and Leo Sayer.
The concert will kick off with a musical havdalah from Mullumbimby, and then feature live, COVID-safe performances from a secret basement in Sydney, as well as special video messages of love and support from personalities all over Australia and beyond.
Presenting partners include The Australian Jewish News, J-Wire and UIA.
Host and creative director, Ilan Kidron (Potbelleez, Glassbreakers) commented, “By putting on a night like this for Melbourne and the rest of the world in lockdown, with so many important artists from our community and beyond, we’re saying we are here with you and here for you.”
He added, “At Dunera we believe in the power of creativity and cooperation. To Melbourne With Love is about transforming this into a meaningful gesture of love and support.
“When we hear music, we experience a togetherness that is difficult to achieve in any other art form because we are held together in time, yet we are also free to use our own imagination.
“It is going to be a mix of beautiful musical performances and prerecorded love letters from actors, musicians, artists and other influential people.”
Dunera founder Daniel Grynberg said the community was always united – even when apart.
“We know Melbourne is doing it tough and we want our friends to know we are thinking of them, praying for them, sending them love and music,” he said.
“It’s Jewish New Year right now – the perfect time to look forward with hope and heart. And towards the time when we can all jam together again.”
Donated funds will be directed to Jewish Care Victoria.
