LEIBLER Yavneh College is conducting a worldwide search for a new principal after Roy Steinman announced that he will leave the school after almost a decade at its helm.
LEIBLER Yavneh College is conducting a worldwide search for a new principal after Roy Steinman announced that he will leave the school after almost a decade at its helm.
“For these past (nearly) 10 years, I have lived and breathed Yavneh: I have laughed, celebrated and cried with our students, teachers and their families,” Steinman said.
“I have been, and continue to be, inspired by the commitment, talent and drive of our students and the extraordinary dedication of our teachers, many of whom are among the very best in the profession.”
Steinman will remain in his position for the remainder of 2016 and has agreed to help transition to a new principal next year if required.
College chairman Avi Gilboa wrote to the Leibler Yavneh community and said that it was with deep regret that Steinman decided to pursue a new professional challenge.
“Roy moved to Leibler Yavneh in 2007 and I vividly recall his keynote address at a function designed to welcome him to the community,” Gilboa said.
“That address focused on the absolute criticality of Jewish education to the future of world Jewry, the importance of genuinely symbiotic relationships between school and home, and the necessity to create an experiential college environment consistent with its educational ethos.
“It was Roy who coined Leibler Yavneh’s motto: ‘Living Judaism Today. For Tomorrow’. And it is he who has always so appropriately epitomised this notion, serving as a role model par excellence for our children, and successfully introducing so many initiatives and programs to further our school ethos.”
Gilboa said a subcommittee has been established to oversee the search process for a new principal.
“The subcommittee plans to engage with all stakeholder groups in coming months and will of course update the college community as appropriate.”
Mizrachi Synagogue president Ian Waller said that Steinman has made an enormous contribution during his time as principal.
“On behalf of the Mizrachi community I wish to express my thanks to Roy for all that he has done for the college and the community,” Waller said.
Steinman joined Leibler Yavneh in 2007 after a decade as principal of Moriah College, Australia’s largest Jewish school, in Sydney.
