EMANUEL School students joined more than 800 youngsters from around New South Wales in the fight against NSW Premier Barry O’Farrell’s education cuts.

They are taking part in the Students against School Cuts campaign that calls on people to stand up for their rights.

“We don’t vote – so we need you to! The NSW Liberal Government is slashing $1.7 billion from all NSW schools. Join the fight against the cuts and tell the Liberals that High school students deserve better,” the campaign’s Facebook site says.

Emanuel student Jonty Katz said he and his peers feel like they are being targeted by the cuts. “We care about our education and cannot take it for granted.”

NSW Parliamentary Friends of Israel deputy chair Walt Secord echoed Katz’s sentiments. “Last week, the Australian Council of Jewish Schools said the cuts would total up to $3 million across NSW Jewish day schools,” Secord said.

“Before the election, the O’Farrell government promised to protect and continue the current funding levels for independent, including Catholic and Jewish, schools. These cuts will affect every school and every student.”
